RDU Terminal 1

Terminal 1 Renovation

Renovations for the 165,000 SF Terminal 1 at Raleigh-Durham International Airport included all new finishes, furnishings, lighting, and signage. The translucent materials created a light-filled interior space and open views. A new canopy system that extending the length of the building and linking the curbsides, provided both shelter and a new architectural feature for the terminal. The $68 million modernization project dramatically changed the central portion of Terminal 1.

Apple Designs developed the updated signage system in Terminal 1 based on the design standards we established for Terminal 2. Modified and new sign types were created to integrate with the unique architectural conditions. A focus on complementary design helped ensure a seamless passenger wayfinding experience between the two terminals.
